Rio Papers. A Guide to the Collection. La colección, donada
en respuesta a la solicitud de la Biblioteca De Golver, incluye documentos
de Nela Rio del 1967 al 2007.

Datos ofrecidos
en el abstract de la colección en la biblioteca indican que
Nela Rio, poeta argentino-canadiense, ha publicado (hasta la fecha del
2007), 9 poemarios y que su poesía y cuentos han sido antologados
tanto en EE UU como en Canadá; que ha sido profesora de literatura
en St. Thomas University (New Brunswick, Canadá) por treinta y tres
años. La colección contiene material que corresponde tanto
a su quehacer poético como a su interés académico.
Muchos borradores de su colección poética publicada, manuscritos
de poemas de su juventud, así como borradores de la traducción
de sus trabajos están incluídos en esta colección.
La colección cubre tres décadas e ilustra la intensidad y
la actividad de Nela Rio. Está compuesta de 21 cajas, y contiene
material en castellano, inglés, portugués y francés.
También ponencias académicas, presentaciones, correspondencia
y varios proyectos. En su interés académico frecuentemente
trata de enfocar a la mujer como agente activo en historia y en literatura;
esto se ve en esta colección poética y en los ensayos. El
material está en español, inglés, portugués
y francés.

La colección
está dividida en 5 series:
_
1: Nela
Rio’s Creative Manuscripts, Drafts, and Writings Series. This series
contains Nela Río’s creative works including early manuscripts,
drafts, artist books, and copies of published work. Of particular interest
is the only poem that Nela Rio wrote originally in English dedicated to
the memory of her late infant son.

2: Nela
Rio’s Correspondence and Papers Series. This series contains Nela Río’s
correspondence with various people including three of her translators Elizabeth
G. Miller, Hugh Hazelton, and Samuel Zimmerman. It also contains flyers,
brochures, and conference programs from previous years, newsclippings,
articles, and various reviews of her books and press material. It illustrates
the active creative and personal life of Nela Rio.

3: Nela
Rio’s Academic Papers, Presentations, and Projects Series. Not only
an artist, Nela Río also engaged in academic pursuits and projects.
Two of her research interests included eroticism and colonial literature
written by women. Also she actively engaged in projects dealing with public
education, art, and human rights. Included in this series are various papers,
presentations, notes, published articles, and background on projects.

4: Correspondence
and Work for the Project "La Voz y la Escritura". This series contains
correspondence, transcripts of recordings, and the work of authors who
contributed to Nela Rio’s project "La Voz y la Escritura" (The Voice and
Writing).

5: Grabaciones.
These recordings are part of Nela Rio's project "La Voz y La Escritura"
(The Voice and Writing). It is a collection of Latin American and Spanish
authors who recorded themselves reading their own work in the original
language of the pieces.
