University of Calgary

Prospective Students

Are you considering graduate study in French and/or Spanish?

Looking for a bright career in teaching and research?

Students enrolled in our graduate programs receive every opportunity to develop their professional and academic skills while completing their MA and/or PhD degrees.

We are a small program (25-30 graduate students) which allows our students to study, interact with their peers and with faculty members in small seminar settings.  Many opportunities are available to work and conduct research with our award-winning specialists and to eventually publish an article with a professor while in program.

All our graduate students complete a Language Teacher Training Program, designed to prepare them for teaching adults at the university level.  While in program, they have the opportunity to lead language labs or tutorials and may also apply to teach a course as a Sessional Instructor.

The department also offers a series of workshops on Professionalization for Graduating Students in the Humanities, designed as a specialized apporach to the academic job market, in which sessions include career coaching, dossier preparation, interview preparation, etc.
